The Hon. Dawn Hastings-Williams hails from the small Akawaio village of Kako in the Upper Mazaruni of the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region. She attended Kako Primary School. Minister Hastings-Williams was awarded the Hinterland Scholarship which gained her entry to the Central High School in Georgetown. She is a graduate trained teacher by profession. Her community-oriented leadership and active political life, rendered her fruits as a Member of Parliament in 2010.
Under the APNU+AFC Coalition government, she was first assigned Minister within the Ministry of Communities with responsibility for Water and Hinterland Housing in 2015. Afterwards, she was reassigned Minister of Public Affairs in the Ministry of the Presidency in 2017.In April 2019, she was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of the Presidency.
